Meet Your Photographer, a short series that will be introducing you to the contributing photographers of yagazieemezi.com over the next couple of weeks. You will be seeing their work on here fairly often so this is an excellent way for you to get familiar with these talented folks.

My name is Tj Letsa and I’m a 25 year old photographer from Accra, Ghana. I picked up photography from a friend who showed me the basics of the art and I really enjoyed it. At first, I wanted to start a menswear blog, figuring that my sense of style would be an advantage. This was during the time when the menswear blog craze had hit the internet and I like many, wanted to bring this wave into Accra, Ghana.

"I have always had a creative side. Picking up a camera just helped me to express it more. I’m on a journey with my creative self to portray my heart. I believe in the art of photography and not the science of it.  Photography should be a tool for which people would use to document the most memorable periods and stories and relive it by looking at each photo. African Brands should also use photography as a powerful reminder of their corporate entity and tell their own stories."

Since moving to NYC i’ve been hitting up my local health food store and supporting black businesses where possible! Anyone in the Mount Vernon area should definitely visit the Sadhana Tea House on Gramathan Avenue.

It carries teas, tonics, vitamins, supplements, natural self care products and a range of smoothies made by the loving hands of Mother (see below) who is a proud vegan since the age of 14 who is 64 years old looking like she’s 40+.

This picture reminded me of the picture in 1965

“Hog-spitting – not just spitting,” Tonja Bulley emphatically clarifies.

“He just hog-spit at my baby. He hog-spit. He took everything out of him and spit in my daughter’s face. She is a minor. That’s the absolute worst thing you can do, when you spit on another human being. She was just saying ‘No justice, no peace’ and he hog-spit (at) and then smacked my baby. At that time — there was no more being peaceful.”

Bulley and her daughter, Brandy were released from jail last night after being arrested by police outside the St. Louis Rams game the previous day after a violent clash with football fans.

As the Rams were completing an impressive 28-26 victory over the Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks, Tonja and Brandy were outside the stadium participating in a non-violent protest calling for justice for Mike Brown, and the immediate arrest of his killer, Darren Wilson.

Tonja, known affectionately to her friends as “Tiny,” continued:

“We were peacefully protesting. We were saying something that this big, tall White man did not like. He should’ve been locked up, and they did not lock him up. One slapped my daughter and another hit her with his fist. Another woman threw her drink on me – and I retaliated. I’m not coming out to fight, but I have the right to protect myself.”

Tiny would eventually get punched and knocked to the ground. “I got hit by a couple people. I have a mark behind my ear.” She was initially charged with two felonies for throwing punches after the initial altercation. No violent Rams fans were arrested.

She says the racial double-standards were apparent: “We had a right to protest without anybody interfering. When the White people protest, there are no problems. Nobody is spitting on them. When we try to do it, the media goes around and acts like we started (the fighting.) We did not start it. I peacefully protest every day in Ferguson, and it’s never a problem.”

In Ferguson, Tiny and Brandy have been protesting since Brown was killed in August, and have become unofficial members of the Lost Voices—a spirited and well-known group of young leaders who led Sunday’s protest.

Obama Administration has taken the Grey Wolf population off of the endangered species list, making it legal to kill them. They places on the list in 1973 and now the Obama Administration thinks their population has risen to a healthy size, and describes the killing of these wolves as “wolf management”. Meaning they are justifying this killing this beautiful and majestic creature to “protect live stock” and control their population growth. There used to be over 400,000 grey wolves roaming the states. Now there is still less than 5,000. If this is considered a healthy recovery to the Obama Administration then they need to pay more attention to the science of observation.

Reasons why you should be angry about this and fight for the wolves:

Watch the video above.

Wolves restore and balance entire forest ecosystems. They are key predators to other species keeping the species populations in balance with in the forest. Wolves are very social and family oriented creatures who mate for life, and keep life long relationships with their packs. They are highly intelligent and very essential to the health of forest ecosystems across the entire continental U.S. But now they only thrive in the wild in Canada, some northern parts of Montana, and Yellowstone where they were reintroduced. Grey wolves once roamed the entire U.S.

Help fight for the survival of these essential and magnificent creatures of the forest and mountains.

Sign this petition to help protect these wolves and other vulnerable species. And Spread the word.
